Oilfield
Travelling from the Dumfries area just over the Scottish border back to my home at Whitehaven after a day shooting oilseed rape fields.
Low evening light pervades as cloud cover increases after a glorious sunny day. I drive through Carlisle and head out west on the A595 my mind full of the yellow fields I had been shooting all day.
Near to the Wigton turn off a break in the cloud catches my eye and the close proximity to a yellow field causes me to pull over and assess a picture making opportunity.
After a day spent in bright sunlight this subdued light provides a stark contrast to what I had been used to and so a picture is made.
The canopy of a tree provides a link between land and sky and an anchor for the eye, had the tree not been there the picture would ultimately have failed.
