Whitehaven
The place where I was born and spent most of my life.
Whitehaven is a small Georgian port on the Cumbrian coast with a wealth of history and worth a visit.
Looking Northward across the Solway the Scottish Galloway hills can be seen. Looking West is the Isle Of Man and on a good day with a pair of binoculars grazing cattle in the fields!
The Slave trade, Caribbean Rum and coal mining offer glimpses of an intriguing past, with efforts toward attracting tourists offering a glimpse of its future.
Ennerdale Water in the Lake District is East of Whitehaven approximately eight miles by road.
